UMD Hosts “VoterPalooza” to Encourage Student Voter Registration

DULUTH, Minn.– With every presidential election, there is always a push to get as many registered as possible.
And this is especially true with college students.

Students packed the halls today at UMD for the VoterPalooza.
The goal is to help get students informed and ready for the upcoming election.
As well as get them registered to vote right on campus.
For the Student Government at UMD, getting this demographic to participate is especially important.

“Actually, ages 18-22 are least likely to vote statistically. It is crucial that this age group votes. Especially in this upcoming election with everything on the ballot. College students are the future. And everything depends on us,” said Julia Covert, the Legislative Relations Director for the Student Government Association.

This event today was run by students. For some, this makes the registration process less intimidating.

“It’s showing better engagement for the community, trying to wrap others into taking more of a stand on what they believe in. And I’m happy that its students representing it, to hopefully inspire other students, as opposed to other people that they might not relate to,” said Lucas Worner, a UMD student.

The Student Government is reminding everyone not just students, to do your research and participate in voting for this election.
