Minnesota Power Crew Members Assist In Tampa Bay
DULUTH, Minn.– 20 Minnesota Power line workers and 7 support staff are currently assisting with restoring power to homes in Tampa and removing downed trees and other debris from harsh winds.
After the devastation that hurricane Milton caused in the Tampa Bay region, the aftermath is still affecting residents in the area. The crew members have been hard at work with long 16-hour workdays. Two brothers were asked to help with this cleanup job and from the sounds of it, it is no easy feat.
“We eat meals as much as we can, keep going keep hydrated, and then as far as restoration going on out here a lot of it is here in the backyards. As you can see behind me the vegetation is pretty thick and dense,” said Mike Jacobs, Operation Supervisor for MN Power.
“Mike and I have experienced some natural disasters in the Red River Valley growing up, so we know what the devastation is like. So, to be able to come down here and lend a hand and being a safety for Minnesota both at home, on the job, for the public as well. Anytime we can lend a hand and get the lights back on while understanding the conditions people are suffering through. Like I said, it’s an honor,” said John Jacobs, Senior Field Safety for MN Power.
The brothers are assisting nearly 300,000 Tampa Bay Electric customers who are out of power.
