UMD Football Returns Home to Face Much Improved Minot State Squad

UMD will look to get back to the .500 mark on Saturday with kickoff scheduled for noon.

DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD football team once again came close on Saturday, but ultimately fell short to Sioux Falls as their losing streak extended to three games.

The Bulldogs return home this upcoming Saturday to face a much improved 4-4 Minot State squad.

All-time, UMD is 11-0 against the Beavers.

But, Head Coach Curt Wiese says Minot has been like the rest of their conference this year. A team that’s tightened up from top to bottom by adding pieces from the portal and with the changes it’s showed on the field.

“This week is going to be an important week for us. To be able to get out early on these guys and not get behind. They’re going to scheme us just like Northern State did. They’re going to try and limit our possessions on the offensive side, grind away the clock and win the game at the end. So, the key to this game is to make sure we get out fast early, play with a lot of confidence and be able to figure these guys out defensively,” said Wiese.

Junior defensive back Tyrone McCoy is coming off a notable performance last week against Sioux Falls as he hauled in two interceptions. He said it’s going to take everyone on Saturday for the team to get back in the win column.

“We have a saying where we have their back and they have ours. So whenever the defense can pick up the offense. That’s we do. Then sometimes the offense picks us up. So we always keep that in our mind. Our offense is going to go out there and give us the best shot and we’re going to go out there and give them the best shot. That’s it,” said McCoy.
