Annual Fall Community Connect Event at Damiano Center

DULUTH, Minn. — The annual Community Connect took off Thursday at the Damiano Center.

Nearly 400 people took advantage of everything the center is offering. The Damiano Center is partnering up with organizations such as Safe Haven, CHUM, and St Louis County. They provided different services that is accessible for anyone. Such as haircuts, a hot meal and over thirty tables offering even more resources.

“The weather in northern Minnesota is completely unpredictable. And so, to make sure every member of the community has the resources. A warm coat, some hats and gloves so they can survive, is really huge,” said Jaci Christiansen, the Community Educator Coordinator at Safe Haven.

Another thing offered at the Damiano Center; The Sixth Judicial District is teaming up with the Public Defender’s Office.

Helping people who needs with warrant resolutions.

“A lot of people have traffic offenses and things like that. And so, it can be a real problem if they’re going to lose their job or something. They end up getting arrested if they get pulled over by a cop because of it. So, the more people we can bring in and handle it. The prosecutors are working with me and everything like that to try and get it taken care of, so they don’t get arrested,” said Tom Boenigk, an attorney at Public Defenders Office in Duluth.

The Damiano Center will be hosting another community connect event on January 23rd. And the Duluth Courthouse has walk ins for resolving warrants on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
