Funds Approved for Damiano Center’s 3rd Floor
DULUTH, Minn. — A large portion of the Damiano Center hasn’t been used in a long time.
But now with significant funds, the space will soon be used for more housing. Right now, the third floor to the Damiano center is empty. The community center was approved for $1.4 million by the St Louis County.
The renovated third floor will act as a makeshift space while Chum begins renovations that will double its size.
“I think renovating the Damiano Center will be a game changer. Like we know there’s a homelessness crisis. If the Damiano center wasn’t available, we’d have hundreds of people more homeless in Duluth immediately when Chum closes for renovations,” said Ashley Grimm, the 3rd District St Louis County Commissioner.
Construction for the Chum renovations is happening within the next 6-8 months.
The remodel project is expected to take 18 months to complete.
