Solon Springs/Northwood Set to Be Well Represented at WIAA State Cross Country Meet
Northwood/Solon Springs captured their 2nd straight WIAA Division 3 Cross Country Sectional title, clinching their 3rd consecutive state tournament appearance.
SOLON SPRINGS, Wis.- The Solon Springs/Northwood boys cross country team continues to show that they are a running powerhouse.
This past Saturday, the Green Eagles captured their 2nd straight WIAA Division 3 Cross Country Sectional title, clinching their 3rd consecutive state tournament appearance.
Senior Isaac Dickenson had a weekend to remember as he ran a school record 16 minutes to win his 2nd individual title.
The boys team as a whole has also won eight of the last nine conference championships.
They will run at 2 PM on Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids.
Over on the girls side, freshman Penelope Burfield made some history on Saturday, becoming the first Solon Springs/Northwood girl runner to qualify for state for the first time since 1994.
She ran a school record 20 minutes and 30 seconds, which was a minute and 13 seconds better than her previous mark, to finish fifth overall at the sectional meet.
Burfield joins Connie Hankins as the the only two individual runners in school history to qualify for state.
Burfield is set to run at noon on Saturday.
Joining Burfield on Saturday will be South Shore’s Sophie Truchon, Northwestern’s Sophie Navarro, Superior’s Elena Almonte, and Washburn’s Aurora Olson.
As for the boys, Northwestern’s Morgan Martens and Ashland’s Tristan Blancarte each qualified.
As for the teams, it’s just the Hayward boys who join the Solon Springs/Northwood boys.
The first race begins at noon on Saturday at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
