City Of Duluth Statement Ahead Of First Measurable Snowfall Of Season
“The City of Duluth is monitoring the winter weather forecast. Street maintenance crews will be out plowing snow and clearing ice from roadways as conditions demand. Roads are expected to become slippery with the mixed precipitation forecast for the region in the earlier morning. While currently only one to three inches of snow seem most likely for the City of Duluth, road conditions are expected to be sloppy and icy at times.
As with all first measurable snowfalls of the season, the roads are expected to be extra slippery and icy; the roadways currently bear no existing salt residue, so grit material is more prone to washing right off of road surfaces as the precipitation falls. Less adhesion of grit material to our road surfaces means ice has more chance to build up on surfaces. Drivers and pedestrians should exercise extra caution during their commutes to allow for extra distance between vehicles, reduce their speeds, and take care to drive attentively.
Parents and kids out trick or treating tomorrow should also exercise extra caution while walking, taking extra measures to help children remain visible by drivers tomorrow. Drivers should, in turn, take extra care to watch for trick or treaters crossing the roads.
The City will offer updates via social media on its street maintenance operations as the weather and road conditions warrant throughout the day.” — Kelli Latuska, Public Information Officer.
