Thursday Morning Northland Forecast: 10/31/2024
Not So Scary Halloween Forecast
Yesterday, the National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for today. That has now been downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory, as the weather will not be as frightening today as they had initially suspected. There is a low pressure system over northeast Iowa, with a long cold front extending all the way down into southern Texas. In advance of that cold front, showers and thunderstorms are rumbling through the southern US, up into Illinois and Ohio. On the northwest quadrant of the low, that is where cold air and moisture mix, and that is what will bring us a combination of light rain and snow today. The winds will actually be a bigger factor in the weather today, than the precipitation. It will definitely be kind of windy and cold for the kids trick-or-treating later today. But, we are only looking for light rain, and up to an inch of snow for most of us in the Northland.
We will have cloudy skies today, with temps falling through the 30s. We will have NE winds 15-25 mph, with light rain, turning to light snow this afternoon, and a rain/snow mix later this afternoon into the evening. Snow accumulation will be light, around an inch. Friday will be sunny and warmer, with south winds 5-10, and a high of 42 degrees. Saturday will be partly sunny, with a chance for rain, and a high of 48. Then, we will have a great chance to reduce our precipitation deficit, as there as a very good chance for rain from Sunday through Tuesday. It will be warm enough to be all rain, and not snow, as high temps those days will be mainly in the low 50s.
So, while today won’t be perfect for trick-or-treating, it won’t be so scary after all. Have fun!
