Duluth Experiences Three Home Burglaries in One Week
DULUTH, Minn.– Just this week, the city of Duluth has experienced three different burglaries.
At this time, the suspect has been arrested.
The first burglary happened Monday on the 200 block of West Kent Road
And the other, Tuesday night in the 1500 block of Vermillion Road.
But on Wednesday night, a third attempt happened on the 2500 block of East 2nd Street.
“We’ve always had people coming up the hill, getting into cars. You know that part of it is not new. Like hands off type of crime. But this, is you know, personal. So, it’s really scary,” said Mary Kay Berarducci.
Each break in has happened between 6 and 8 PM.
In total from all three burglaries three victims have been hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries.
And for the neighbors, the incident was like something from a horror movie.
“Well, super scary to hear my neighbor screaming last night. She was like screaming bloody murder. ‘Somebody help me! Somebody help me!’ I thought it was on tv at first. And I opened my window and yelled over to her, and she kept screaming. And I didn’t know why she was still screaming. But I found out later he was still after her,” said Berarducci.
Wednesday night, on east 2nd street, the occupant of the home escaped while the break in took place.
While fleeing, she fell and received non-life-threatening injuries. Following this, officers quickly responded.
“They had drones and dogs. And they couldn’t find him. So, it’s a little umm, disconcerting that there was so much activity looking for him, and they couldn’t find him. So that freaked me out,” said Berarducci.
Those types of break ins back-to-back are something that is almost unheard of.
We spoke with Duluth Police Chief Mike Cenoywa regarding these incidents.
“This is very uncommon. And that’s why we are so concerned. Not necessarily uncommon to see burglaries of garages or unoccupied dwellings. But when people are home, and the person that breaks in, knowing people are home, to do this that is incredibly concerning for us,” said Duluth Police Chief Cenoywa.
“I’ve never heard someone screaming like that. I’ve been here for 30 years, and I’ve never heard someone screaming like that. So that was definitely pretty creepy, and scary, ” said Beraducci.
