2nd Annual Youth Wellness Leadership Summit

SUPERIOR, Wis. — An event encouraging youth to learn more about wellness and mental health took place in Superior on Wednesday.

The Northwest Wisconsin Lung Health Alliance hosted its second annual Youth Wellness Leadership Summit. The event took place at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. About 125 middle and high school students participating. The day consisted of breakout sessions and information tables. Topics included coping with stress, positive self-talk, and how sleep can affect mental health.

“In the past we didn’t have half as much information about mental health that we have today. And as we kind of look at the data and the statistics we see it becoming more and more of a problem. It can be attributed to things like cell-phone usage or just us not being as connected to each other. So, as we look at these issues, I think it’s particularly important right now that students are able to be encouraged to talk about it,” said Russell Habermann.

The summit is co-sponsored by Essentia Health and the Douglas County Drug-Free Coalition…
Students played a role in planning the event and were encouraged to share topics they were interested in.
