WI State Superintendent Tours Cooper Elementary

SUPERIOR, Wis.– Wisconsin State Superintendent Jill Underly took a tour of Cooper Elementary in Superior.

This is part of a statewide tour to explain her 2.5 million-dollar 2025-2027 biennial budget.

Underly emphasized Cooper Elementary as one of the schools that was able to maintain critical staffing and programs.

She is pushing for these opportunities for all Wisconsin schools.

With the funding and grants, many Wisconsin schools have a lot of catching up to do.

“Being able to come in here and see the programs they’re able to keep, and the staff they’re able to keep. I mean Superior has been no different than a lot of schools, where they’ve had to make cuts because of inadequate funding. But we were able to see that they were able to keep things that they prioritize such as reading specialists and instructional coaches,” explained Wisconsin State Superintendent Jill Underly.

Having the opportunity for a statewide superintendent to see how things are run, highlights the importance for adequate public-school funding.

“We continue to want to have those conversations at the state level because the farther north you go in Wisconsin people forget what we need up here. Being able to have these conversations to advocate on behalf of the families, the students and the staff. And the city of Superior, it’s wonderful that she’s coming up here to give us that opportunity,” said Dr. Amy Starzecki, District Administrator for Superior schools.

At this time, the 2.5-million-dollar budget proposal has not been approved.
