Friday Evening Northland Forecast: 11/15/2024
A Windy Weekend
We have been quite fortunate to have had the mild autumn we’ve enjoyed so far. While we haven’t had record warmth, it has been a handful of degrees above average almost every day, since fall started, back in September. It’s only snowed once in the Twin Ports, so far. So we’ve really had it easy. That may be about to change. Enjoy this warm and dry weekend while it lasts. The average high these days is 36 degrees. We will be in the mid to upper 40s this weekend. It will be quite windy all weekend. Saturday, the winds will top out about 25 mph out of the SE, and winds on Sunday will hit about 30mph out of the west. Monday will be the calm before the storm, as it will be sunny, with light winds, and a high in the upper 40s.
Then, it gets interesting. When strong low pressure systems head NE from the Oklahoma panhandle, it usually means something significant for the Northland. A deep low is going to get all wound up, with tight isobars, and start to effect us on Tuesday. It will bring lots of rain, and very strong winds. Tuesday will for sure be a rain event, with highs in the low 40s. On Wednesday, colder air will be brought into the NW quadrant of the low, potentially turning some of that rain to snow. A cooler high temp of 36 will make that possible on Wednesday. It’s too soon to say exactly what will happen, but the potential is there for many inches of snow, if it’s cold enough. The exact track of the low will be a major factor, too.
By Thursday, things will start to clear out, and it will be windy and cooler. Highs may be in the low to mid 30s as we end the work week, with lows in the 20s. Like I said, enjoy the relative warmth this weekend!
