New Safe Exchange Area at Duluth Safety Building

DULUTH, Minn.– A lot of purchases these days involve transactions through the internet. And with those exchanges, finding a safe place to meet up can be challenging.

And to help with that uncertainty St Louis County, and the Duluth Police Department launched the new safe exchange area.

It is located at the Duluth Public Safety building.

It’s meant to be used as a 24-7 meet up spot for internet purchases, and also child exchanges.

They have a camera as well for additional surveillance.

It is placed near the law enforcement offices and that footage is kept for 30 days.

If you can’t make it to the safe exchange, a patrol sergeant said, to map out a reliable meet up plan.

“Well, and that’s obviously to do a well-lit area, a public area. I guess if they have a profile online try to look at that to see if it’s legitimate. Again, do as much research as you can to try to find out about that person,” explained Sgt. Eric Peterson.

Sgt. Peterson is also encouraging people to tell friends and family about the location of the meet up if you can’t make it to the Duluth Public Safety building.
