UMD Students Host Pollinator Event

DULUTH, Minn. — University of Minnesota Duluth’s Helping Hives Club hosted an event Wednesday, getting students thinking about pollinators.

The “What’s the Buzz?” event educated students about how they can do their part to support local pollinator animals by native planting.

The Helping Hives Club was also selling honey and beeswax wraps, with the funds going towards the campus apiary.

Different organizations had tables at the event, including Conservation Minnesota and the UMD Office of Sustainability.

“We really just want to start right here and help spread the word about our pollinators by having workshops, speakers, tablers to help spread the word,” said Violet Forster, UMD Helping Hives Club President. “And it’s so important because they are such crucial creatures to our ecosystem and it’s been my passion project to try and help spread the word about pollinators.”

Local experts also gave insights in how people can support pollinators, even if it’s in a small way.
