AFSCME Rally Food and Fund Drive
DULUTH, Minn.– AFSCME union members collected food donations for Second Harvest Northland today outside Duluth city hall, while rallying for a fair contract with the city.
AFSCME represents hundreds of City of Duluth employees.
They have been calling for fair wages and better benefits and working conditions.
Today’s rally came ahead of a meeting with city administration today.
“You know the fact that we’re showing up in a big way today, it just speaks volumes to the care and compassion the City of Duluth AFSCME members have for our community. You know, times are tough, we know with the economy,” said Steph Randby, City of Duluth AFSCME Member and Job Counselor.
As for Second Harvest, AFSCME members collected cash and food donations at the rally.
Organizers say as a union it’s all about supporting one another.
“It was natural for us because Second Harvest will naturally donate to our Duluth community. And we’re here to support the Duluth community. So, we thought what better way than to partner with Second Harvest Northland to get the food out to our neighbors here in Duluth,” said Randby.
The City of Duluth has over 900 employees and works with seven collective bargaining units.
