Lincoln Park Middle School Students Learn About STEM Career Field
DULUTH, Minn. — An event inspiring students to look into a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math field took place on Monday.
The Lincoln Park Middle School in Duluth hosted a STEMpathy Career Fair. 6th and 7th graders learned from local professionals about their career paths. Representatives from Essentia and Aspirus-St. Luke’s, a forensic scientist, and different engineering companies were in attendance. An organizer says students will soon choose elective classes and this event will help them decide what they’d like to study further.
“The 6th and 7th graders have been very engaged with different adults from throughout our community. And they’re learning about lots of different things, lots of different options,” said Cindy Miller, Library Media Specialist and Computer Science Lead.
College students heading toward a STEM career path were teaching the young students about robots and how to program them.
“I want them to know the opportunities out there in tech. Even if it’s not just robots because we’re here with robots. There are opportunities there for STEM and then yeah, the opportunities there are there for them to showcase their talents in so many ways,” said Ama Yankey, freshman student at the College of St. Scholastica.
The plan for next year will be to host a similar event at Ordean East Middle School.
