Officers Assaulted, Student Arrested After Fight At Denfeld High School
DULUTH, Minn. — A fight at Denfeld High School Tuesday ended with one student arrested and officers assaulted.
A school resource officer responded to help staff members try to separate the students.
During the chaotic scene, one staff member and two officers were assaulted, according to a police spokesperson.
Three other staff members suffered the effects of a chemical irritant, which officials said was sprayed by an unknown student.
A 14-year-old female student was arrested and taken to the Arrowhead Juvenile center for pending charges of probation violation, among other charges that were not immediately announced.
Denfeld High School was placed on a brief “hold” until the scene was neutralized.
Officials did not release how the officers were assaulted.
“The hold, which lasted about 40 minutes, allowed staff and law enforcement to safely address the situation. Mental health support teams were on-site and remained available for any staff or students needing assistance,” said Adelle Wellens, communications officer for Duluth Public Schools.
“We are committed to the safety and well-being of our school community and thank our staff, students, and law enforcement for their prompt and professional actions. This incident is under investigation, and the district is applying its policies to address the behavior involved,” Wellens said in a news release.
