Holiday Light Display Safety Tips
DULUTH, Minn.– According to the National Fire Protection Association, December is the leading month of house fires.
And the Duluth Fire Marshal is urging homeowners to decorate with caution.
Whether you’re stringing lights outside, or putting up the tree, remembering fire safety is crucial.
Preventing these fires is all about making sure your displays are not outdated and set up properly.
We spoke with the Duluth Deputy Fire Marshal; he told FOX 21 several ways to make sure your equipment is good enough for another season.
“The plugs are, they have all pieces that they need to be. That the wire itself isn’t exposed or torn. And then we want to make sure, because we know we like to string multiple together, most of us don’t have enough outlets outside. We want to make sure we’re following the manufacture’s recommendations. And that where we do we have connections, that we have them properly covered,” said Adam Casillas, the Deputy Fire Marshal for Duluth Fire.
Another thing to keep in mind with holiday fire safety, making sure trees are watered properly.
And to not leave cooking unattended.
