Northern Star: Lily Smith

Smith and Proctor are next in action on Thursday at Hermantown.

PROCTOR, Minn.- In a game with plenty of noise, Proctor senior guard Lily Smith let’s her play do the talking.

“I have her in class, first hour calculus. She sits front and center, right in front of the board. Doesn’t really ever ask questions, just is there. But, does very well. Quiet assassin is a great way to describe Lily Smith,” said head coach Matt Solberg.

While she doesn’t mince many words, Smith still knows how to guide and influence her teammates.

“I feel as though I’ve always taken on a leader role. I mean that’s not always the case, I’ve had people older than me like Hope Carlson has been the leader. I’ve kind of gone under her wing to really learn what being a leader really is,” added Smith.

Taking a leadership role took time, but not her impact.

“Lily’s been in this gym since we first met her when she was a sixth grader. So playing in our summer program and at the time, the little wipper snapper up and coming. She made our varsity roster as an 8th grader and has been a factor for our varsity team the last four years,” said Solberg.

As for legacy, Smith like always, keeps it short and sweet.

“A hard worker who has a lot of fun playing basketball. I think is the best kind of compliment for me,” added Smith.
