Local Veterans Honor Pearl Harbor Fallen

DULUTH, Minn. — 83 Years ago, on December 7th, 1941, over 2,400 American service members and civilians lost their lives during the attack on Pearl Harbor

Now, decades later, Duluth Veterans held a ceremony, to honor and remember the fallen.

The ceremony started with the presentation of colors by the Duluth Honor Guard, which was followed with the singing of the National Anthem.

The ceremony continued outside as a wreath was placed in Lake Superior as a tribute to those who lost their lives.

Bob Woods, whose uncle was at Pearl Harbor during the attack, says it is a sorrow feeling to not see any WWII vets in attendance, but he hopes their experiences are carried on through their family.

“But they remember because they grew up with those people, those survivors of WWII and Pearl Harbor and those who fought in the war and so forth. But the bond is still there to bring everybody together,” said Woods, Past Commander of VFW Post 137. “And I love it when these people come, some have been coming as long as I have been. And it makes me feel good that I’m still doing something right.”

The remembrance ceremony was wrapped up with a 21 gun salute and the playing of taps, as the wreath floated in the water.
