Dannie Duluth Searching for a New Owner
DULUTH, Minn.– The resale boutique Dannie Duluth has called the Twin Ports home for 25 years.
The business started out with a passion for fashion.
“I was living in Santa Cruz California at the time I decided to move to Duluth and open my store. I went to a variety of different consignment stores in that area, looked around and said hmm, I can do this. And I might be able to do it better,” said Danielle Langguth, owner of Dannie Duluth.
With the largest U-Haul you can rent, Dannie set out on a mission to find her perfect place.
“And then I drove down fourth street, the windows were papered up with a sign that said the floor store had moved downtown. So I sat across the street and thought well, I should count the cars that drive by here. And I couldn’t believe it, after 10 minutes, I realized what a fabulous location this is,” said Langguth.
And after some negotiation with the previous building owner, Dannie Duluth made its mark.
It has a focus on designer and name brand clothes for thrifted prices.
Seeing the positivity that the store gives shoppers, is something she will hold with her forever.
“I mean, you can’t go wrong. It’s just fun to come and look and see what she has. And I always find treasures,” said Roberta Clink, a shopper at Dannie Duluth.
“University girls, they come in here and they’re all excited because they’re going thrifting, they call it. Or they say hey, listen, I thrifted this outfit,” said Langguth.
And that positivity still remains in the community today.
“25 years? Yeah, I mean that in itself is a testament to what a wonderful business she has,” said Clink.
With retirement in the near future, Dannie is able to look back on her business with a smile.
“I’ve been very proud of Dannie Duluth. Particularly thankful to my many, many loyal customers and cosigners. We almost have 11,000 cosigners at this point. They’re all loyal. There’s pride, there’s enthusiasm for the continued success of Dannie Duluth,” said Langguth.
“This year, I turn 70 years old. And I realize, I’ve got to spend more time with my family, so that’s the goal. And plus, I’d love to travel,” mentioned Langguth.
Dannie Duluth has 4 prospective buyers.
She hopes to find someone who will continue the legacy she created 25 years ago.
