Vigil Honors 66 Homeless and Advocates Who’ve Passed in 2024

DULUTH, Minn. – Homeless advocates and community members gathered to remember those who have passed away this year.

The annual “Homeless Memorial Vigil” is held to celebrate the memories of people who have struggled with housing; and advocates who have fought to increase housing accessibility. Overdose deaths among the homeless population fell this year, according to advocates, but the struggle to ensure everyone has a place to call home is ever-present.

Attendees gathered at CHUM before carrying signs with the 66 names and faces of those who’ve died to the steps of City Hall. There, around a fire and surrounded by community members, their names were read aloud to ensure that no one was forgotten.
