C-E-C Boys Hockey Set to Host Defending Class A State Champions
The Lumberjacks are currently 6-0 on the season.
CLOQUET, Minn.- The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys hockey team is off to a hot start to their 2024-25 campaign as they still remain perfect through six games.
The Lumberjacks are currently 6-0 on the season and average six goals per game and have recorded 37 goals on the year.
C-E-C also has shut out two of their six opponents so far.
Part of the Lumberjacks success this season has come from the depth within the team and players stepping up when their number is called.
“Hundred percent buy-in. We are defending hard. We are playing as a unit and as a team. Everyone is pulling for each other. We have extras, any given night we have guys that we can pop in and that makes for a really competitive team and good practices. Are depth is really helping us out this year,” said head coach Shea Walters.
Despite the 6-and-oh start, the Lumberjacks have a big test on Thursday as they host the defending state champions in class A, St. Cloud Cathedral.
“They are a highly skilled team, and I think we just have to keep working, keep going hard, and giving it our all,” said senior forward Bobby Thornton.
Defending state champs, they have a lot of high-end talent that are coming back in Hirschfeld and Gillespie, and they actually have that kid on the back-end Sturm who is a pretty good player as well. We just got to do our homework, we watch film on them and prepare the best we can,” said Walters.
Puck drop for St. Cloud Cathedral and C-E-C is at 7 p.m.
