Friday Evening Northland Forecast: 12/20/2024
A Quiet Weekend
The Winter Solstice is finally here! Saturday is the shortest day of the year, and we can now start the slow climb to more minutes of light each day. But, I doubt if you will notice it. For the next week, we literally add only seconds each day. We have to wait til mid-January to see a couple of minutes of daylight added to each 24 hour period. Then, the days will start to feel significantly longer.
And, the first day of Winter will be very similar to the last day of Fall. The average high and low for today is 23 and 8. Our high and low on Friday hit only 16 and 1. Saturday’s high will also be in the mid to upper teens, under partly sunny skies. The winds will be light, and out of the south, so the windchill won’t be a big deal. Sunday begins our warmup, as we will hit the mid 20s for a high, under mainly cloudy skies. There is a chance for light snow in Minnesota, late Sunday night, but it won’t be anything for the kids to get very excited about. Just flurries, for the most part. Maybe 1-2 inches in northern Wisconsin and the South Shore into the U.P. of Michigan.
All of next week will be very consistent, with mainly cloudy skies, and mild temps. Highs in the coming week will range from 30 to 34 degrees. Unfortunately, for snow lovers, I don’t see any big snowfalls coming in the next 10 days. In fact, next Friday looks like we’ll see a high of about 36 degrees, with a chance for rain. Good grief. The kids can’t take their new sleds down the hill on that!
So, enjoy the first real weekend of Winter, and get the most you can out of the shortest day of the year!
