Spirit Mountain Celebrates 50th Anniversary

DULUTH, Minn.– This weekend, Spirit Mountain has plenty to celebrate after now being in business for 50 years.

Spirit Mountain has been an outlet for ski lovers since 1974.

And they’re focusing on celebrating the vision and idea community leaders had, that ultimately became the outdoor sports center Duluthians know and love.

The weekend will be filled with a medallion hunt, live music, and a family fun zone.

Spirit Mountain has become a passed down family tradition for many, and that means a lot to the staff.

“Oh, I think it’s just a wonderful thing. It’s part of our spirit, if you will. People come here, they learn to ski here. They bring their kids. We have families now who the grandparents are bringing the kids. Because the grandparents have been pass holders for 50 years,” said Ann Glumac, Executive Director at Spirit Mountain.

One of those longtime pass holders was at Spirit Mountain celebrating.

He has had a pass for 20 years now.

“I think it’s terribly important. All our family learned to ski here. And all our friends, likewise. It is a big part of the city, and a big part of the quality of life in Duluth,” said Paul Sharp, a longtime Spirit Mountain enjoyer.

Another exciting part of this celebration is the time capsule that will be buried this weekend.

It will be opened back up in another 50 years.
