Scandia Cemetery faces eroding shoreline, requests aid

Duluth, Minn — Scandia Cemetery has been struggling with a crumbling shoreline as it creeps towards the burial plots, they are requesting funding with a proposed solution.

Erosion has left many graves very close to the waterline.

Fixing the problem requires stabilizing the shoreline and constructing a retaining wall to prevent further erosion.

The proposed solution would be permanent.

It would also preserve the cemetery and respect for those buried there.

They need $250 thousand just for the preliminary work and about $2.3 Million for the full project.

St Louis County is seeking funding through state resources.
