Sewing Gaining Popularity as Winter Continues
DULUTH, Minn. — While staying warm at home during winter, many people take on hobbies such as sewing.
Laura Maki, the Owner of Sew with Me in the Miller Hill Mall, says the holidays and colder months are a busy time at the store.
Sew with Me provides a variety of essentials, such as sewing machines, fabrics and threads. Even classes are offered at the store.
Maki says sewing can be very beneficial for mental wellbeing, which is important to maintain during the cold temps.
“We see people coming in for all different types of things, whether it’s threads, fabrics. We do see an increase in business because people are busy sewing,” said Maki. “A lot of people pick up sewing just for something to do because it’s cold outside and they’re not wanting to be out there, so they’re in their house but that also allows them to be creative.”
Maki also says sewing gained traction during COVID, as people were creating projects at home during lockdown, and even making their own masks.
