Young Athletes Shine During ‘Saturday Morning at the Races’
DULUTH, Minn. — This weekend kids showed off their running skills during Saturday Morning at the Races.
The first of three Saturday race events took place at the UMD Field House, with hundreds of kids up to 14 years old participating.
The Young Athletes Foundation hosts the event, which helps kids burn off energy and stay active during the colder months. It also serves as a way to get kids involved in running.
“We try to get kids started at a young age with this race series and then we have races for them at different distances, whether they’re fun runs or other free races that they can enjoy as they grow up,” said Shane Bauer, Grandma’s Marathon Executive Director. “So hopefully you get them a good start at an early age and they’ll continue this going forward.”
The next race morning will take place at the College of St. Scholastica on January 18th, followed by the third and last installment at the University of Wisconsin Superior on February 1st.
