Gunflint Mail Run Dogsled Race Needs Volunteers After Postponing

COOK COUNTY, Minn.– For this year’s postponed Gunflint Mail Run Dogsled race, one hundred volunteers are needed to help make this happen.

The lack of snow and too much rain this season are the reasons for the delayed start.
The dogsled race is now scheduled for February 8th.

This comes after last year’s ended up being canceled because of the same less-than-ideal track conditions. Race organizers say because of back-to-back weather issues, they’re considering moving the date permanently later in the year moving forward.

But for now, the hope is the race will go on next month.

“I’m more optimistic this time around than I was last winter. But it is frustrating. It is causing our board of directors to reconsider the timing of our event. We are one of the first dog sled races to kick off the season regionally,” said Cathy Quinn, one of the race organizers.
