Hibbing Fire Department Purchases New Aerial Apparatus Truck
HIBBING, Minn.– Since 1994, the Hibbing Fire Department has relied on their big yellow apparatus truck to help them out with emergencies.
But now, in the coming years, they will welcome a new aerial apparatus to join their fleet of trucks.
The 1.9-million-dollar truck will take around two years to get manufactured.
The truck will be built over in Wyoming Minnesota.
In the meantime, the yellow apparatus is still functional, and the Hibbing Fire Chief told FOX 21 it has held up amazingly overtime.
That being said, they are looking forward to this upgrade.
“Parts are getting more difficult to come by. Very analog truck, most things are digital these days. We’ve had some maintenance and repair breakdown issues, and we’ve actually had to get some parts made because they’re no longer available to us anymore. At some point in time, we expect to get 30 years out of an apparatus, and this one is just timing itself out,” said Erik Jankila, the Fire Chief at the Hibbing Fire Department.
Some new features the new truck will include is the ability to hook up breathing systems on the end of the truck as well as a bucket on the end of the ladder, similar to power line trucks.
