Hibbing HRA Receives 26 Million Dollar Grant for Workforce Housing

HIBBING, Minn.– Millions of dollars is heading to Hibbing, to go towards a brand-new housing development.

This project tackles the need for quality and affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families.

The new development will replace the current 52 units at the Greenhaven Apartments, which were built in 1952.

The goal of all of this, is to address problems related to the aging and outdated housing in the city of Hibbing.

“Additionally, we have basements that continue to leak, and we’ve done several restoration projects on those, trying to fix them. But they continue to pump water throughout the winter. Which you can imagine becomes a very concerning issue,” said Jackie Prescott, Executive Director for Hibbing HRA.

City officials say, a development of this magnitude, is not something they see every day.

“I’ve heard from some local contractors that are really excited about this. We haven’t had a project in Hibbing like this in I don’t know how long. So, I do think, like I said before, I really do feel it will be a community revitalization, versus just a singular housing development,” added Prescott.

The project is hoping to break ground sometime in the fall of 2025.
And the construction of the new development will last between 12-14 months.
