UMD Women’s Hockey to Clash with Ohio State in Top 4 Tilt

The UMD women's hockey team started off their season with a bang by sweeping the then top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes back in September.

DULUTH, Minn.- The UMD women’s hockey team started off their season with a bang by sweeping the then top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes back in September.

This upcoming weekend the two teams will battle once again as this time it’s on the Bulldogs home ice.

In her weekly presser, Head Coach Laura Schuler looked back at the first series with Ohio State and detailed some changes she hopes to see from her team.

“Obviously they’re a strong team. I think last time that we played them, I think we played a little too perimeter. This time, our focus is going to be getting inside those dot lines and making sure that we are taking shots. No matter where the shots are coming from. If it’s dead angle shots but if we have that line we have to recognize it and we have to take it,” said Schuler.

It’s already been a big week for UMD forward Clara Van Wieren as she was nominated for the 2025 Hockey Humanitarian Award on Tuesday.

“I would say it’s really just a reflection of the community around me and my support system. Kelly’s standing over there but she’s been so amazing and just like everyone giving me ideas and providing support. Schu’s really just let me kind of run with my crazy ideas sometimes. So, it’s a reflection of me somewhat but it’s a reflection of everyone around me and how amazing everyone else is too,” said Van Wieren.

Van Wieren and the Bulldogs take the ice at 6:01 PM on Friday.
