After Turning to Conference Play, UW-Superior Men’s Basketball Starting to Heat Up
The Yellowjackets tip off with Northwestern Wednesday night.
SUPERIOR, Wis.- After a slow start to the season for the UW-Superior men’s basketball team, they have started to heat up as they began UMAC conference play earlier this month.
The Yellowjackets are currently on a four-game winning streak, all against conference opponents.
Their latest win was against Martin Luther, where the Yellowjackets won in dominant fashion 91-to-62.
The Yellowjackets sit at the top of the UMAC with their 4-and-oh start. But on Wednesday, no easy test as the Yellowjackets face Northwestern, who is in second in the UMAC.
Part of the success to the Yellowjackets conference play has been their ability to be on the same page.
“Our guys continue to flow together. Defensively that always a big emphasis for us. I think we’ve really gotten on the same page with that. As a group we have added a couple things that way. Offensively were playing together really nice, balls moving, we’ve had some guys have some nice performances shooting the ball. I think collectively on both sides of the ball we’re really playing together,” said head coach Greg Polkowski.
As the Yellowjackets continue conference play, there is one goal in mind for the season.
“Win conference. It’s pretty simple at this point. We’ve made the last two years to the championship game so now it’s finish the job. I think we got the right group of guys to do it and excited for it. Understanding that it’s the end I think has helped us all a lot, which is pushing ourselves that much farther, understanding that if we don’t win it this year it’s done after this,” added guard T.J. Moberg.
