Northern Star: J’Vaun Walker
Walker is in his 5th and final season with the Yellowjackets.
SUPERIOR, Wis.- Five years ago, UWS guard J’Vaun Walker left the Texas heat to the tundra of Superior, Wisconsin.
“Obviously the weather was an adjustment. It still is an adjustment to say the least. I wanted to get away, see what I could do by myself a little bit. It’s worked out, so I have no regrets,” said Walker.
And it sure has worked out as Walker is on the verge of reaching 1,400 career points.
“He’s an energy type player. When he’s bringing it, I don’t neccesarily mean scoring or getting stops. But just his demeanor and personality in general, his energy can really fuel us. It’s a great asset of his,” added head coach Greg Polkowski.
The statlines may change but not the player and person that Walker is.
“He’s been ultra committed through what we feel is continuing to work very hard to get better each year. We’ve had ups and downs within that and he’s stayed true all the way through. So very committed, very loyal, very dedicated, he’s a great teammate, he’s a leader within our team,” said Polkowski.
Walker has pretty much done it all for the Yellowjackets, except for one last team accolade.
“Just to win, whatever it may be. If that’s scoring. If that’s rebounding. If that’s being able to make the right play every time. That’s the only thing I care about right now. I want to win. This team wants to win. We’re excited for what we can do to hopefully bring the first UMAC championship to this program,” added Walker.
Walker and the Yellowjackets are next in action on Saturday against Minnesota Morris.
