Spanish Immersion Program Expands to Meyers-Wilkins Elementary
DULUTH, Minn.– Following the popularity of the Spanish Immersion Program at Lowell Elementary School. Meyer’s Wilkins Elementary is next in line.
The Spanish Immersion Program is part of the Duluth Public School’s efforts to help the demand for diverse learning.
Right now, this program takes place at Lowell Elementary.
Lowell has 325 students enrolled in the program. For Fall of 2025, 125 to 150 kids will relocate to Meyer’s-Wilkins.
The district aims to create a more spacious and enriched learning environment.
“So, we want to make sure that our students, to prepare them for the future world we live in, that they are multilingual, and they have those opportunities. And so, what we’ve seen through Spanish Immersion is people are really drawn to it. People love Spanish Immersion. They love it so much that Lowell is bursting at the seams,” said Superintendent John Magas.
By expanding the program, it will solve overcrowding at Lowell Elementary.
They’re supposed to have 500 kids enrolled, but they currently have 650 students.
