Pop-up Art Show to Be Held at City Hall on Tuesday

DULUTH, Minn. — A local artist duo held a pop-up show in the Duluth City Hall Rotunda.

The pair of artists created a vibrant interactive art installation, spreading color and joy to the heart of the civic center.

The installation is inspired by an indigenous story called the “Two Wolves.” The story explores the internal struggle of having two opposing sides, which the artists represented through a “good” wolf and an “evil’ wolf.

“Both of us as artists really feel freedom when we are invited into spaces that are meant for people, or meant for the community. So coming in here and transforming this space is a powerful way to show the community what we are welcome to do,” said artist Ginger Juel.

All ages were welcome to visit the show for free, and even interact with the pieces. The show aimed to bring some colorful energy to the middle of the workday.

“The first thing I want people to feel is curiosity. And then second, I hope that we’re approachable enough that they can come and engage with the art, ask questions, even touch it, so I hope that we’re approachable. And I also hope it adds them like a moment of pause in the day,” said artist Jacklyn Janeksala. “You know, they’re always so busy, that’s one of the things that we hear a lot. We don’t have time to stop, we’re too busy. And we say we encourage them, you have 30 seconds, come and look at our art. And after they do that, they do walk away lighter and brighter, and that’s such a joy to see.”

The show was held Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The artists will continue to have monthly pop-up shows at City Hall, with each show exploring a different theme with new artwork. Those shows will be held Feb. 24, March 10 & 14, April 28, May 19, and May 23.
