Northwood Tech Offering Free Fast Track GED/HSED
SUPERIOR, Wis. — Over the next two weeks, Northwood Technical College is running a free fast track for GED and High School Equivalency Diplomas
From February 1st to the 14th community members can show up and potentially get their diploma in just two weeks.
The classes and tests are for any Wisconsin residents 18 ½ years or older who left high school without earning a diploma.
By making the classes and tests free, it removes a major barrier for those who struggle to find the time and cost of traditional classes
“Right now, for two weeks, we’re offering some support from our foundation, so the foundation will pay for their testing fees, and are also offering a $250 voucher if they want to continue their education. So, for two weeks now, they can come and get their GED/HSED from 9 to 4” shared Sonja Von Frank, Academic Support Instructor.
Earning one of these diplomas can boost future salaries by about 25% and paves the way for continuing education.
It also often provides a source of pride and relief.
“It’s very special. I love what I do because I get to, I get to see these students achieve their dream. So many of them have been wanting this for a long time. And I get to cry with them and, you know, cheer with them and support them.” Said Von Frank
Even if you can’t make it to the fast-track session, they do off the regular GED/HSED classes for free anytime.
While there is normally a $37.50 fee per test, there are scholarships offered to cover those fees for students who find cost to be a barrier.
For students who struggle with traditional testing, they have flexible programming and work with students to find the approach that works best.
