Rice Lake hosts sixth annual Winter Frolic

In Rice Lake, the fresh snow came just in time for some outdoor fun. The sixth annual Winter Frolic took place on Sunday, Feb. 2, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Kids there got in on some sledding, hot cocoa, and even snowmobile rides! The mayor of Rice Lake said the event is a great way to give residents another option to spend their winter day.

“I think getting people an alternative to get out and enjoy the snow, you can either stay inside and enjoy being away from the snow, or you can put on your warm gear and just get out and get some exercise,” said Suzanne Herstad, mayor of Rice Lake. “Take your kids and enjoy the nice beautiful day. We have fresh snow outside and it’s mostly undisturbed here, and you can get on that sled, go down the hill. I think it just provides a different alternative for people to enjoy the beautiful weather.”

The mayor said the frolic really came about from a need to find more ways to connect with neighbors and build comradery.

“We just wanted to pull the community together in the middle of the winter to enjoy each other,” said Herstad. “It helps to get to know your neighbors a little bit more, and from there it’s like, okay, we gotta bring this outdoors. We have a beautiful park, if you haven’t been here before. It’s on Stockholm drive, and it’s a very quiet park. It’s tucked away with lots of undisturbed snow, and it’s a beautiful place to enjoy old-fashioned winter.”
