Duluth Police Chief Releases Statement After Newborn Surrendered at Shelter
Police say the newborn is safe with a foster family
DULUTH, Minn. – Duluth Police say their investigation into the events from January 21, are focused on the health of the infant and the mother and identifying who dropped the baby off at Safe Haven; not into the shelter itself. Chief of Police Mike Ceynowa, released a video statement, followed by a written press release, Wednesday afternoon. Two search warrants for Safe Haven’s shelter claimed the shelter’s director called police to say that a baby was left outside the shelter in subzero temperatures. When police returned with their first warrant for exterior camera footage, the warrant applications claimed the shelter director then said the baby was left inside the shelter, with an unnamed staff member.
