UMD Men’s Hockey Ready for Final Stretch of Regular Season

UMD is currently 12 points behind Omaha in the NCHC standings.

DULUTH, Minn.- There will be no more bye weeks for the UMD men’s hockey team as they enter the final stretch of the regular season.

Five straight weekends of series and that starts this Friday when the Bulldogs play the University of Nebraska- Omaha for the first time this season.

In the last 10 meetings, it’s gone in the Mavericks favor as they’ve won seven of those contests.

Head Coach Scott Sandelin gave his final thoughts on the series ahead before their travel day Wednesday morning.

“They started the year obviously slow and stuck with it and were on a roll. Put themselves in a position to be at the top of the league. Always a tough trip, always a tough team to beat in their building,” said Sandelin.

“They’re going to be ready to go in the first five minutes to hit and play defensively sound. That’s one thing that I learned last year playing them. It’s a tough challenge but I think we kind of have that same mindset but we also have that offensive mindset to we’re going to put the puck to the back of the net as well,” added defenseman Aaron Pionk.

UMD is currently 12 points behind Omaha in the NCHC standings.
