Thursday Evening Northland Forecast: 2/6/2025
A Super Windy Day
We had a nice, soft snowfall over much of the Northland last night and this morning. Most of us got around 3-4″ of light, fluffy snow. It was just fine to wake up to, and get going this morning. No big deal. Then, the high pressure came blasting in behind the storm system, and the pressure gradient between the low pressure moving off to the east, and the high pressure flying in from the northwest made for a crazy windy morning and afternoon, with west winds buffeting us at 45mph by the noon hour. That advancing air mass also knocked our temperature down all day. We hit our high of 18 degrees around 5am this morning, and the temps have been falling every hour since then. Just for comparison sake, our average high and low for today is 22 and 3. And with the arctic air masses we have moving in for the next week, we may not see highs in the 20s again for the next week and a half.
High pressure will bring us lots of sunshine on Friday, but it won’t be very warm, as we will only hit 18 degrees for a high. And a reinforcing boost of cold air from the north puts our high temps beginning Sunday at 14, 12, 4, 8 and 10 degrees. We will bottom out Wednesday morning at -18. Did I mention our normal high and low is 22 and 3? Good grief. Saturday, the next storm system is trekking across the area, but we won’t get much snow out of it. Most of us will get about an inch of snow on Saturday. But, if you’re travelling to the Twin Cities on Saturday, you might be driving thru a fresh batch of 5 or 6 inches of snow. So, be ready for a slow ride heading south.
Super Bowl Sunday brings more high pressure and sunshine, with a low and high of -8 and only 14 degrees. A perfect day to stay inside, make some stadium food (for a lot cheaper than at the Super Dome in New Orleans), and watch the football game. A great way to spend a cold, wintery afternoon!
I’m always looking for big snowstorms heading this way, as we are still 23 inches below where we should be for the season. But, I don’t see any coming in the next 10 days. I will let you know!
