London Road Undergoing Major Construction in 2026
DULUTH, Minn.– Next year one of the busiest roads in Duluth will be reimagined.
And with this construction, 10-17,000 daily commuters will be impacted.
In 2026, 26th Avenue East on London Road over to 60th Avenue East in Duluth will undergo major construction.
The 20 million dollar project will include the addition of round-abouts replacing sidewalks, as well as improving roadway light and drainage conditions.
The summary for this project includes:
-Enhanced intersection improvements (left turn lanes, raised pedestrian refuge islands)
-Lane configuration/pavement marking modifications
-Add missing pedestrian amenities
-Drainage improvements
-Pavement resurfacing
-Replace existing sidewalk to meet ADA standards
-Boulevard tree removal and replacement
MNDOT is hoping these changes will help issues with speed and pedestrian crossing.
“Hopefully with some of the lane narrowing and just the corridor we can make it look like ‘Hey, you need to slow done.’ for people. And with the enhanced crossing, it’s easier and safer for pedestrians and vehicles will see them a lot easier if they have refuge islands or the rapid flashing beacons,” said Pippi Mayfield, MNDOT Communications Director.
There will be a public meeting discussing project status, detour routes and landscaping.
The meeting will take place Wednesday February 12th at the Duluth East High School at 5:30 in the evening, and updates on the project will also be posted on the MNDOT website as well.
