Gunflint Mail Run Recap
COOK COUNTY, Minn. — After a year hiatus, the Gunflint mail run continued after being postponed earlier this year.
The race was made up of 11 different mushers who competed for the best time across two, 32.5 mile legs.
In the past, the mail run held two races, a 12-dog and a 8-dog race. This year, the event switched to doing only a single 10-dog race.
Taking first place was Rita Wehseler with Stoney Creek Sled Dogs, who finished with a time of 5:20:08. That’s over 27-minutes faster than second place musher Matt Schmidt with Sawtooth Racing, who finished with a time of 5:47:43.
