#6 UMD Women’s Hockey Eyes Clinching Home Ice in Series Against MSU-Mankato
UMD hasn't dropped a game to Mankato since the 2021-2022 season.
DULUTH, Minn.- The 6th ranked UMD women’s hockey team returned to the win column over the weekend, sweeping Bemidji State and snapping a six-game losing streak in the process.
Next up on the Bulldogs radar are the Mavericks of Minnesota State-Mankato.
UMD previously won one game and tied the other against Mankato in a series back in November.
The Bulldogs have dealt with a number of players in and out of their lineup due to many different reasons.
Head Coach Laura Schuler gave credit to her team’s resiliency while dealing with that.
“Their buy in is tremendous. I did think we had some people in and out of the lineup because of illness before and we had to play with different people. I didn’t think we handled the challenge very well. So we had another opportunity to do it again with both Nina and Ida out of the lineup. This time our team crushed it. So that was a huge step for us to be able to take. We have to be ready to play with anybody because you never know what’s going to happen in a game,” said Schuler.
Defenders Nina Jobst-Smith and Ida Karlsson were out last week after representing their respective national teams. But now they’re back and ready for the postseason push.
“You’re always kind of focusing where you’re feet are. Us being away at the olympic qualifiers, we were focused on that. The games leading up to it when we were playing Wisconsin, I wasn’t thinking a thing about olympic qualifiers. You just have to stay in the moment and I think that goes with anything else you’re working toward. Be present where you are and give it your all and you’re going to be rewarded for it in other ways,” said Jobst-Smith.
UMD hasn’t dropped a game to Mankato since the 2021-2022 season. They’ll look to keep it that way on Friday at 3 PM.
