Road Show Connects Local Farmers and Educators

CLOQUET, Minn. — The Farm to School Road Show made a stop in Cloquet to teach the importance of getting those local foods in schools.

It brings together educators and early care providers with local farmers.

By connecting them it gets fresher foods to kids, which can help them like those foods more.

It keeps money local, supporting a stronger local economy.

Students also learn more about the food cycle and get opportunities to get hands on experiences.

The experiential learning piece is huge. Having children see where their food comes from, understanding that broccoli doesn’t just magically show up at the grocery store, or apples. You know, apples are a whole apple. It’s not just sliced in a package, learning to see how it’s grown, where it comes from, who’s preparing and taking care of these plants, to then get this produce for this local food to me, so I can eat it and enjoy it. It’s really important.” said Jayme Anderson, Farm to School and Early Education Consultant for the Minnesota Department of Education.

These workshops were put on by the Minnesota Department of Education.

They are free for attendees and have multiple sessions across the state.
