Fire Destroys Vacant Duluth Duplex on W. First Street

DULUTH, Minn. — A massive fire destroyed a vacant duplex at 2226 W. First Street in Duluth late last night.

According to a press release, firefighters responded around 10:20 PM and found heavy flames spreading through the two-and-a-half-story building.

They called for extra help before even arriving, due to the intensity of the smoke.

The fire, which had spread to all floors and sides of the duplex, was too dangerous for crews to enter.

They fought the fire from outside, but the building is a total loss, with parts of the roof collapsing.

By 1:30 AM, the fire was nearly out, but crews stayed to monitor the area.

The Duluth Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause.

Due to the cold temperatures and water used to fight the fire, the area may be icy, and people are urged to avoid W. First Street and Superior Street between 22nd and 23rd Avenue W.
