6 Mile Ice Skating Trail at Gunflint Lodge
GRAND MARAIS, Minn. — The Gunflint Lodge has a new trail for ice skaters. They set up a six-mile ice skating trail on Gunflint Lake.
Use of the trail is free, and Gunflint Lodge rents out skates. They have Hockey and Figure skates, but especially helpful for the trail is their Nordic skates.
“It’s, it’s wild ice, so it’s a little bit rougher than what would be in a regular skating rink, but so we rent this the Nordic skates, which which are a little bit longer skates than, say, a hockey skate, and they ride over the bumps quite a bit better,” said Owner of Gunflint Lodge John Fredrikson. “They’ve got a cross country ski binding, and then you use a cross country skate ski boot to for a little bit more ankle support. And people, people get cruising out there pretty good.”
It takes a lot to maintain the trail so they appreciate those who use the trail and stop by for a meal or check out their gift shop.
The ice skating trail is just one new addition to their many other activities.
