Union Gospel Mission to Hold First Ever 5K Fundraiser
DULUTH, Minn. — Union Gospel Mission is hosting their first 5k and its happening this Saturday. Its called the Miles for the Mission 5K.
The starting line is at Leif Erickson park and culminates at Bent Paddle Brewing where items will be up for raffle.
Music and hot beverages will also be provided to help warm folks up. Participants of all ages and abilities can run or walk.
Organizers said the event was inspired by their mission to help our vulnerable neighbors who often face the cold weather conditions.
“We were sitting around thinking about ways to raise some extra money this year, especially after we decided to kind of move forward with our mission, Engagement Center Project,” said Jana Picotte, the development coordinator. “We haven’t really ever done any sort of fundraiser that is that the community can come out to so we thought a 5k that, you know, represents what a lot of our people go through.”
The money raised from the event will go towards Union Gospel Mission as they continue to provide critical services, like housing, hot meals, and children’s food programs.
If you want to participate in this weekend’s 5K you can sign up on their Facebook page. The Mission is also accepts donations.
