Cutest Puppy Contest Returns to Fitger’s Ahead of John Beargrease Dog Sled Marathon

DULUTH, Minn. — Before the elite dogs took to the trails for the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, the little pups got in on the fun as well.

The annual Beargrease Cutest Puppy Contest returned to Fitger’s Saturday, bringing together dog lovers of all ages.

Spectators voted for any of the 30 young pups who competed in this years contest.

All of the contestants were 4 to 9 months old, so they had plenty of energy when trying to get votes.

One dog owner said the contest also serves as a way to get puppies comfortable around others.

“We thought it would be very fun to come out and get her introduced to people, get her to see other dogs, all different sorts of people and also support the John Beargrease too,” dog owner Jamie Morsel said.

From energetic huskies, cuddly labs and even those with a bit of everything, dog breeds of shapes and fluffiness competed for the top prize.

Including a 8 month old pup named Evie.

“She’s Pitbull, Australian cattle dog, miniature Australian Shepard, bulldog and Labrador retriever. So she’s kind of got a little bit of everything, but she’s very sweet,” Morsel said.

While only one pup would take home 1st place award, they are all very good dogs.
