Laakso Story Still

NEW RICHMOND, Wisc. – Police say a 70-year-old man murdered his wife, before then disposing of her body in a rural area.

On Sunday, Mar. 2, New Richmond Police responded to the residence of 70-year-old Gordon Charles Laakso and his wife, 68-year-old Mary Laakso. According to a press release, “The 911 caller indicated that Mary’s husband…made statements that led them to believe Mary may have been harmed earlier in the day.”

Officers were able to locate Gordon but could not find or contact Mary. “The investigation later led to a rural area in Polk County,” the press release said, “where Mary was found deceased at approximately 4:00 p.m.”

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner released a provisional report that called “the manner of death to be (a) homicide.”
Gordon was arrested and charged with first-degree intentional homicide, domestic abuse by strangulation, and hiding a corpse. He is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bond, and if found guilty of these charges, he faces a life sentence.
